Gender Equality

Gender equality means equal representation of men and woman. It doesn’t mean that men and women are same but they have equal value and right. Gender equality is seen as a basic human right. All over the world, women are found to be more suppressed. Studies shows that majority of the poor population around the world are women. Around 70% of the populations who live in extreme poverty are all women. Different parts of the world still prohibit women from right to vote. Equal pay for equal work is one of the main areas where gender equality is rarely seen. Discrimination against women and girls (such as gender-based violence, economic discrimination, reproductive health inequities and harmful traditional practices) remains the most pervasive and persistent form of inequality.
Empowering women through better education, opportunities, leadership, justice, better health facilities, right to vote, equal pay for equal work, etc. are some of the most important step towards gender equality.
